Who doesn’t love peas? One of the first things we can put into the soil and one of the first plants to produce in the garden. We plant early, mid and late varietals, so we have the longest production of fresh peas that we can.
Pod or not to pod, we are pod grower. I love peas in the pod and eat all type in the pod when they are young and the peas have yet to form in the pod. We start planting on St. Patrick’s Day, soil temp. Around 45 degrees, we plant them 1- 1 ½ deep an inch or two apart and in rows 18-24 apart. We grow them on fences or on twig branches pushed into the ground.
